Audrey Hepburn

Holly Golightly. I think I preferred her as Sabrina, although I've never really understood how Humphrey Bogart got all those good roles. Audrey Hepburn's love interest? Ingrid Bergman? Lauren Bacall? Katherine Hepburn? Ava Gardner? C'mon, he looks like old pictures of my grandpa, with his pants hiked way up past his belly button. But of course, just the other night Casablanca was on AMC, and of course I had to watch it. Again. And Bogie was cool. Again. And today I got caught up in a Bogart movie I had never heard of, Isle of Fury. Pretty good flick. But I was still mystified by his appeal as a leading man. Jealous, more likely.

Speaking of leading men, I guess part of my problem with Breakfast at Tiffany's is this guy:

I can't say anything bad about him, other than I just can't take him that seriously, having watched and dearly loved The A-Team before I ever saw Breakfast at Tiffany's. First impressions are lasting ones.

Anyhow, back to Audrey Hepburn. Ms. Hepburn died of a form of appendix cancer, I'm not quite sure exactly which type, and the sources are sketchy. This was waaaay back in the early 1990s, and this article details her battle with the disease. However, the description of her disease is basically a description of PMP. If anyone has more information, let me know. She appears to have had an advanced and aggressive form. The article quotes Ms. Carolyn Langlie-Lesnik, R.N., B.S.N., an appendix cancer survivor who writes a thoughtful blog you can find here and she also maintains a very helpful website on appendix cancer here. The article also contains interviews with four prominent PMP doctors from around the country, Drs. Esquivel, Mansfield, Levine, and Goodman, and it even contains a good group picture of them:

Audrey Hepburn called it "abominable" rather than "abdominal" cancer. Pretty funny. She should've blogged about it.
